What is an H1 report?
An H1 report demonstrates that a building meets the energy efficiency requirements of Clause H1 of the New Zealand Building Code. It covers insulation levels, glazing areas, thermal performance, and construction details.
When is VM1 modelling needed?
VM1 modelling is generally used where the project needs a more detailed compliance pathway, such as designs with glazing over 40%, complex layouts, or projects that cannot achieve a pass using the calculation method alone.
What documents do you need?
Typically we need architectural plans, elevations, sections, window and door schedules, and any specifications or insulation notes. For takeoffs, a scaled or dimensioned plan set is essential. Send what you have and we will tell you if anything else is needed.
When would an H1 alternative solution be needed?
An alternative solution may be needed where the project is non-standard, such as a renovation, addition, unusual existing building, or design that does not fit neatly within a simple H1 pathway. In those cases, the logic and supporting calculations need to be clearly set out for review.
Can you do takeoffs for GIB board including specialist types?
Yes. We schedule GIB board by type — standard GIB, Aqualine, Noiseline, Braceline, Durastop, and fire-rated boards. Wet areas and specialist applications are identified and listed separately so contractors can quote the right product.
Do you measure insulation separately from H1 compliance?
Yes. Insulation takeoffs are treated as quantity schedules for pricing, ordering, and scope clarity. H1 reports are treated separately as compliance documentation. They can be done together, but they are not the same service.
How long do takeoffs and reports take?
Turnaround depends on project complexity and how complete the plans are. Straightforward residential projects can often be turned around quickly. Tell us your deadline when you send your plans and we will confirm whether we can meet it.
Can you work from incomplete plans?
Yes, up to a point. We will identify what is missing and what assumptions would need to be made. If there is too much missing for a reliable report or takeoff, we will tell you clearly what is needed rather than producing something that cannot be relied on.

Still unsure?

Send us the plans or ask a question and we’ll point you in the right direction.
